Our story

In 2007, a movement of prayer began at Michigan State University, with a simple question from the heart of Jesus:

“Will you stand with Me in the place of prayer?”

We said yes, and the FURNACE prayer movement was born with a simple formula: A passion for Jesus, a heart for students and conviction for a holy Revival. Partnered with a heart for unity among God’s people, this has fueled the movement and continued to propel it forward to this day.

After meeting in various locations across the campus, we secured our first prayer room space in 2013, directly across from the campus. Known simply as “The Prayer Room,” the room was made possible in partnership with other friends, churches, and prayer movements.

Today, we are the House of Prayer East Lansing. The movement of prayer for the MSU campus still remains central to our mission on Monday nights. However, now we stand as a gathering place for believers from all across the community to pray for the Greater Lansing area (and of course, the world) as well. It’s still the same invitation for all to join with the heart of Jesus and stand with Him for the campus, the city, and the world; that His Kingdom would be known here, as it is in Heaven.

And, it’s amazing, as we stand with Him in the place of prayer, He sends us out as the ANSWER to our prayers! We get to introduce people to our beautiful Savior, Jesus Christ and teach others to follow Him on this great adventure of faith, too.

Jesus said, “My house will be a house of prayer, for all nations.” [Mark 11:17]

Our story is your story, and this house is your house. We invite you to come join us at any of our gatherings.
